It’s very nearly time for Hair Fair to close it’s doors for another year. It’s been absolutely amazing and as per last year, I’ve been blown away by our little community. Even though I’ve been posting 2-3 times a day since the fair started, I still ran out of time. So I’ve made a wee collage of the last few stores I wanted to show. Full single versions are on my Flickr stream if you want to see close ups. Also, you will find notes on the collage so you know who’s who and whats what. Now please excuse me while I lay down in a dark room for a week :P
Bandana Day has officialy started. Join us, and remove your hair to show you care.
The philosophy of Wigs For Kids is to help children feel themselves again. This is directly in line with the RL Bandana Day in Australia. We buy bandanas and wear them one day of the year, to help kids who have lost their hair feel more comfortable with how they look. The money from the sale of those bandanas goes to charity, it’s a tradition we have mirrored in SL every year.
We hand out bandana kits prior to the fair, to anyone who wants to lend a creative hand to the cause. It’s so funny that every year, the finished products have gotten more and more ornate, particularly with the advent of sculpties. It’s your chance to own a wee bit of SL history as these bandanas are only available once a year and only at the fair.
Shown here are just a couple of the beautiful creations you can find in the Bandana Day booths. All the money from the sales goes directly to Wigs For Kids to go towards paying for a hair system for a child in need. Click here for info about the hair systems and how it all works.
We are coming into the home stretch of the fair now, and it’s the home stretch for me too. I have to admit to being a wee bit cross eyed atm! But after the generosity of the designers, not only with their donations but with their review copies as well, the very least I could do is pimp the hell outta them :P
Many of us on the commitee share the love and excitement of seeing new designers finding their way at their first fair. One of the new stores this year is Blue Galaxy, new store to making hair that is. The styles shown above are so cute and a great first hair release from Ash Soyinka. I felt like being a fairy for a bit as human Ashia was getting dead boring :P Plus even fairies need some good tuneage!!
Bliensen + MaiTai have appealed to my retro loving heart with their releases, the lace veil in particular is an immediate fave. Pre adorned hair is a huge win in my book, even with all the attachment points we have now, you could always do with one more. Greedy aint I.
Also very retro are the releases from Donna Flora. Retro in the more traditional sense of the word. These are very grown up styles, to be worn with the most ornate of dresses, well in my mind anyways! As we are coming up to the final day of the fair, please don’t forget Bandana Day.
As is tradition, we all remove our hair to show we care on this day. You can only get bandanas from the fair, and we have some amazing ones by some of your favorite SL creators. I’ll be showing you some of those tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who bought or created a bandana for this event, your support means the world.

Stand by for a super massive pic heavy post!
Those of us that have been around for a long time will remember Deviant Kitties. I loved that store so hard, and now although re-branded to become Ploom, my love is just as fierce. The hair is still beautiful, diverse and unique. The first hair shown here, for me is a bit of a nod to those long gone DK days by way of the coontail streak.
Pocket Mirrors is a new to me store, and I feel a favorite coming on!! Their fair releases are retro gorgeous, and so perfect to show the Pinup lingerie from Blue Blood.
And last but by no means least, Hairoin…for us addicted people. I loved the red texture in the packs I was lucky to receive, hence the colour change from my usual platinum blonde. This year, I’ve had the pleasure of being able to really experiment with colour and break away from my staples of either blonde or black. Do you do the same for the fair? Or do you stick to your regular shades of choice?
No time for talky talky this arvo…*cue the collective sigh of relief* Still so many hairs to show, and I swear theres not enough hours in the day. The styles are credited underneath each pic, in case you see one that takes your fancy that you havent grabbed yet. Bandana Day is coming too, more on that a bit later tonight.
Today I’m bringing you an old favie. Amacci is the store owned and run by the fabulous Carina Larsen. She’s an uber talented lady, with many aspects to her store. She’s made her name though, with her beautiful skins and hair.
You absolutely cannot beat these textures, there are so yummy. The hairbases make the styles for me, these are version 2 bases. If you dont have them yet…you do need them!
For me, Amacci hair comes into it’s own when there are no bangs involved. My favorite of Carina’s designs always involve the hair being pulled off the face.
This red is stunning. It’s the perfect shade, and see what I mean about the hair pulled back?
The whisps of hair around the hairline are so gorgeous, and they really stand out with this particular shade.
Dont forget to stop by the booth before the fair ends, and also while youre there, snap a shot for the second Flickr photo contest. Details can be found HERE.
Omg omg soo running out of time!! I’m gonna have to bombard you with posts for the next few days just to get through all the stores I want to show.
When it comes to incredible, intricate and ornate hair, Tekeli-li is the store to go to. Covering all sorts of RP genres, the hair you will find there is decorated, detailed and gorgeous.
You get so much bang for your buck, with all the jewels, metals, accessories being colour/texture change.
I first discovered this store when I went through my monacle phase, a period in my SL I remember fondly. I found an excuse to wear said eyepiece with just about every outfit I owned. I think it was around the time I only wore hooves, but thats a bedtime story for another time :P
Every style is a work of art to me. This is another store that has me awed by the creativity and care that goes into each and every hair/piece of jewellery.
You must get to the booth before the fair closes, as I think all these styles are must haves!
There’s a few stores in SL that kill me with cuteness, and Rosy Mood happens to be one of them. We are lucky to have had them in a few fairs now and their generosity never ceases to amaze me. This year’s fair releases are utterly adorable and so perfect for casual, after beach wear.
I love the textures, from the fairy hair (Minime calls hair that has been braided wet, then let out after drying to keep the kink in, fairy hair) to the supercute tonged bunches. Alot of these styles would look amazing on kid avs as they have such a young, innocent feel to them.
The style above is such perfect Jussy hair with the sassy flips!
And a smoother braided style to finish. I love the choppy bangs too, theyre very soft on the face, and not as severe a look as regular bangs.
Have you joined the Flickr group for our second contest yet? The prizes are such a must have for anyone whose keen on SL photography, especially the Flickr pro account, paid for by What’s New SL. Check out the group page for all the rules etc, and you can find more details either on the Hair Fair blog, or scroll back one post on my blog.
It is time for our Second Hair Fair 2011 Photo Contest. When this years build was created, it was always the intention of the committee to make it as photogenic as possible. We invited aDORKable Poses to join us once again in this endeavour. This year they have exceeded our expectations, and the sims are really fun to be at.
Many have already taken such incredible pictures of the builds, we want to step that up into a mix of Hair Fairs latest releases, you and the pose oppurtunities available. This contest starts NOW and will end on the day after Hair Fair officially closes – which is the 16th of July at midnight.
The photo you enter must have you – or someone granting you permission to take their pic – in the photo with NEW Hair Fair 2011 hair on. Posed on one of the aDORKable poseballs set up at the fair, with the prop and/or fairground in the background. The hair must be recognisable as Hair Fair 2011 hair, and the pose must also be recognisable as one at the event. So be careful when cropping your pictures.
You will find all the rules on the flickr group page, but please please make sure you tag the photos and put the description in as asked. Failure to do so will void your entry, and that makes us cry.
